What You Need to Know About the New iPhone 7

Apple officially announced the release of its newest flagship product.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, told the audience at Bill Graham Civic in San Francisco, “We have created the world’s most advanced smartphone – the best iPhone we have ever created. This is iPhone 7.”

Now, what exactly makes it the most advanced smartphone ever? Well, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will feature upgraded, dual cameras, water resistance, longer battery life, better stereo speakers, and no headphone jack.

The dual camera is probably the biggest change to the phone this year. The purpose of the dual 12MP lenses is so one can capture wide-angle and one telephoto. However, the phone only has a one-third inch sensor so low-light photos will not be as good. The front camera also got upgraded from a 5MP lens to 7MP.

Also, the battery size increased from the 2750mAh size of the 6s to 2910mAh. The change isn’t terribly significant but with the introduction of “fast-charging”, battery life shouldn’t be as big of an issue as previous years.

The design of the phone will remain virtually the same but the storage and power will get an upgrade. The standard storage for the iPhone 7 will be upgraded from sixteen to thirty-two gigabytes. Also, the new quad-core A10 processor will be two-times faster than that in the iPhone 6. As for software, iOS 10 will feature a more organized home center and more advanced Siri.

The most controversial change by far will come will the removal of the 3.5mm headphone port. This means Apple’s AirPod Bluetooth headphones will be available for $159. The AirPods consist of un-wired earbuds that allow you to contact with Siri, make calls, and of course listen to media.  However, Apple will include a “3.5mm-to-Lightning Adapter” and wired headphones to plug into the charging port.

Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple said,“We’re taking the headphones in iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to Lightning, and we’re including them in the box.”

The iPhone will be released in twenty-eight countries. A week after, it will be available for purchase in thirty countries. The standard 32GB phone will cost $649 with the 128Gb costing $749 and the 256GB $849. New colors include ‘jet black ‘ and ‘black’. Other colors include gold, silver, and rose.

Apple also unveiled the Apple Watch Two for $269. Upgrades will include “swim-proof” technology, a better processor, and new colors.
