The Seneca Valley Raiders were triumphant over the visiting Hempfield Area Spartans last Friday, winning decisively with a final score of forty-two to thirteen.
Commentators Caleb Magill and Gavin Cress were pleased to call another win. Several Raiders players had breakout performances, including seniors, Sean O’Shea, Kai West, and Kyler Matson. The Raiders dominated the first quarter, ending the quarter with a score of 28-0. Hempfield, with only three offensive possessions, was shut down by the Raiders’ defense each time. Three touchdown runs from running back Kai West contributed eighteen points in the first quarter alone. West went on to finish the game with nearly 150 yards rushing. In the second quarter, Raiders again held Hempfield Area scoreless and quarterback, Sean O’Shea, had a 25-yard touchdown run. Raiders’ defense came alive to put up four sacks on the quarterback from notable defensive lineman, Brooks Beres, junior. The first half ended with a score of 35-0, Raiders.
To start the second half, the Raiders put up a single touchdown, still holding the Hempfield Area Spartans scoreless. Quarterback, Sean O’Shea, was substituted out for backup quarterback, Parker Brugos, senior. The kicker, Jake Adams, senior, remained perfect on the night with extra points, going six for six. Kyler Matson also put on an incredible performance, finishing the night with 92 rushing yards. Going into the fourth quarter, the Raiders sat atop the Spartans with a score of 42-0.
In the fourth quarter, running back, Owen Mancuso, senior, went down with an apparent leg injury, walking off with a noticeable limp. He did not return the rest of the game. Hempfield Area put their first and only points on the board with two touchdown runs. The Raiders won with a final score of 42-13. With this win secured, Seneca Valley Raiders improve to 2-5 on the season, Hempfield Area Spartans fall to 1-6. Raiders are set to take on the North Hills Indians Friday in North Hills.
