With the arrival of the Seneca Valley School District’s new and improved cell phone policy, the staff have reacted very favorably towards the changes. But what about the students themselves? Students have shared their views on how they feel about the new rules.
Student Council member, Nathan Taylor, expressed his dislike of the new policy. He said, “I feel it should be a more lenient thing, and especially the few teachers who are extremely strict about it should be calmer about it. And if the phone rule was because of the ‘whole school being an issue,’ at least be more specific because I know many people who do not even bring or have phones at school.”
Another student, the Vice President of Student Council, Gavin Cress, had a remarkably similar reaction to how the cell phone rule is being used. He said, “The cell phone rule is bull crap. Students who do not want to learn, will not learn. Smart Pass is more of a distraction than pulling your phone out since you must grab your school computer to use the pass. It also takes longer than five minutes to go to the bathroom sometimes.”
It is yet to be seen if this is true, if students who do not want to learn, will not learn regardless of any policies that have been enforced. As the school year progresses, we will continue to see the progress (or lack thereof) from this new policy.
