Winter brings drying weather, that can damage hair, if you don’t take proper care of your hair. Throughout this article, I will present several different ways to maintain hydrated, healthy hair.
An important step when caring for your hair is the way you brush it after washing it. It is best to use a comb when brushing through wet hair. Brushes can damage wet hair and cause breakage due to the fragile state the hair is in while wet. While on the topic of wet hair, you should wash your hair less during the winter. Due to the cold, dry air, washing it too much can be harsh on your hair. It is good to focus on a conditioning routine more than your wash, to keep the hair hydrated.
Products to help dry hair during winter would be things like, recovery hair masks, leave-in conditioners, oils, moisturizing your scalp with oils, and covering your hair at night with something silk or sleeping with a silk pillowcase.
Getting your hair trimmed regularly can help tremendously. A lot of breakage in hair is from split ends which is a result of not trimming your hair frequently enough. You might think trimming your hair isn’t good if you are trying to grow your hair out, but it helps it, because you are cutting off the unhealthy hair, so it will grow a lot better.
Surprisingly, using a humidifier in your room helps your hair! The moisture being distributed to your room also goes to hydrating your skin and hair.
Finally, try to avoid styling your hair with heat. Things like flat irons, curling irons, blow-dryers, are not good in winter because of the brutal cold temperatures. If you do use these styling tools make sure to use a good heat protectant, to keep the hydrated hair safe!
Hopefully these tips are useful to your life and there are things you can incorporate into your hair care routine, and I wish healthy hair to us all this winter!
