During the course of the 2016 Presidential election, immigrants have been at the center of the spotlight as Democrats and Republicans argue the value of these people. Due to this, there has been a notable rise in opinions that argue that immigrants are the reason many issues occur in the United States. I’m here to argue against that.

It is an undeniable fact that the United States is the most powerful and influential country in the world. This great nation truly can’t be compared to any other. However, the majority of Americans don’t realize why this is.

In an article written by the Huffington Post, America’s education system is placed at 17 in the world. Other sources also cite the United States as having an average score when it comes to education. Many might wonder, how is it that the single most powerful nation in the world scores so comparatively low despite the efforts of our wonderful teachers? Well, without going into specifics on the education system and its politics, the simple answer comes down to this:

Immigrants.

You see the superpower of the United States are immigrants because as a nation we offer some of the best college institutions in the world and lure in the greatest minds. Essentially, we pick and choose the geniuses born in other countries and invite them to our country so that they work to our benefit. That’s how we stay ahead of everyone else in the world. We defeat the competition by taking their resources and using them against them.

Let me explain with an example, let’s say you had a very difficult math test to take but your teacher allowed you to choose one student to help you take the test. Why in the world would you choose someone specific to your class when instead you could choose the best math student in your school? That’s the mentality many U.S. businesses have when they offer jobs to people from other nations.

Another example of this can be seen with Albert Einstein. Instead of limiting their choices by choosing Americans, the United States government picked Einstein, a  German, to help in the creation of the Atomic Bomb. By picking and choosing the best of the best, they became successful.

As immigration becomes a more talked about issue in the United States, it’s important to think about the massive benefits that they’ve provided for this country in both the past and in our current present.
