Republican party nominee Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood walk of fame was recently vandalized on Wednesday, October 26^th.

Trump’s star may have been destroyed by a pick axe on Hilary Clinton’s birthday but does not mark the first time the star was vandalized. The star has seen many forms of vandalism since Trump announced his candidacy, with the most recent taking place back in July when a small barbed wire fence was placed around the star complete with miniature American flags.

According to TMZ’s website, however, the suspect who committed the most recent act of vandalism was arrested by the Las Angeles Police Department on Thursday morning. The LAPD reportedly tracked down suspect James Otis in West Hollywood as he was leaving a home. Otis has since been booked in the Men’s Central Jail in downtown, according to an article on WPXI.com.

Otis then went on TMZ Live to identify himself to the public and to discuss his motives behind the vandalism. Otis explained himself to the public by stating in the video, “I have four or five family members (who were) sexually assaulted. I’m terribly upset that we have a presidential nominee who’s become the poster child for sexual violence.”

According to the New York Times, an eye witness on the scene, Dominic Patten, a senior editor at Deadline Hollywood, which initially reported the news, said that Otis told him he wanted to auction the star and raise money for the many women who have recently come forward to condemn Trump of sexually harassing them.

Pattern also stated that when the defacement occurred, the suspect was seen wearing a hardhat and a reflective vest while holding a pick axe and a sledge hammer. According to Pattern, the act only lasted about five minutes before Otis allegedly made a “quick retreat”.

Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which maintains the Walk of Fame, has since released a statement regarding the recent defacement of one of the famed stars. He stated, “The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an institution celebrating the positive contributions of the inductees. When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark. Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a difference by voting and not destroying public property.”

Repair work began as soon as the day of the defacement. Construction teams have been working on refurbishing the star since Wednesday, and Gubler told the press that the brass lettering has already been reinstalled.
